Hello everyone,

Labdoo 2.0 is now feature complete and ready to be launched. Since 2.0 was written from scratch, we need to migrate all data from the current Labdoo 1.0 to the new Labdoo 2.0. One good news is that the migration algorithms can run in the background, which means that we do not need to interrupt the current 1.0 in production to do the migration.

The migration code is designed to take care of most of the data migration (there are quite a few details), but i am going to need a small collaboration from your side to make sure that all is completed properly.

Here is 2.0 with all data migrated: https://dev2.labdoo.org

Notice the new temporary URL "dev2.labdoo.org". Once we are ready to launch, we will simply change the link to point to www.labdoo.org. So the URL above points to the actual new production Labdoo server (not beta anymore).

The URL switching date from dev2.labdoo.org to www.labdoo.org is scheduled for next weekend (June 6th/7th).

The general philosophy is that we don't need to rush. As mentioned our migration will not interrupt 1.0, so the current site will still be operational as usual. Also, consider this as an ongoing process: even after we switch to the new site, we will continue to work step by step improving one thing at a time to ensure that all works as expected (e.g., improving wiki content, adding translations, adding teams, etc.). The site itself is collaborative, so we can all help to improve it day by day.

Things that I wanted to ask you to collaborate with during the migration process:

  • Please log in to your labdoo account by going to https://dev2.labdoo.org/user/login and using your Labdoo account (don't create a new account, your user account has already been migrated). Once you log in, go to your account settings and update your personal information. Due to changes in the format, some information needs to be manually entered by you.
  • All objects are migrated correctly except one type: newsletters. Soon we will start a round of manual migrations to get all the past newsletters into the new platform.
  • If you are a manager of a hub that has "branches", please read the following. In 2.0, branches are implemented as a special type of hub. The migration code does all the migration of hubs from 1.0 to 2.0, but it does not migrate the branches since in 2.0 they are conceived as separate hub objects themselves. You will need to create the branches by yourself. This is explained here: https://dev2.labdoo.org/content/creating-new-hubs. You will need "superhub" rights in order to create your hub branches, please email me at jordi.ros@labdoo.org and i will assign superhub rights to your account.
  • If you detect any field or piece of information that needs to be updated or improved, please do so.
  • You can read more about how 2.0 works from the wiki Labdoo manual page: https://dev2.labdoo.org/content/labdoo-social-network-how-it-works

Thanks.
