Hello team,

Ralf and I have taken some initiatives lately to help improve the contribution/donation workflow for new users who don't know much about Labdoo. The idea is that we want to make things really simple for people who don't have the time to create a Labdoo account but who still want to donate a laptop or contribute a trip to carry laptops to a school. Those who have the time and really want to take action, they can create a Labdoo account. Those that don't, they can still make contributions (laptops or trips) via this new mechanism.

I created new buttons that will take users to a form that they just need to fill in. Depending on the country the user selects, this form automatically generates an email to the superhub region in charge of that country. Then a Labdoo volunteer (the superhub manager in this case) can reply back to that user indicating how he/she can make the donation/contribution.

I have integrated the buttons under the quick getting started page:

https://www.labdoo.org/content/about-labdoo

The workflow is as follows:

  • A new user who wants to contribute a laptop or a trip, goes to https://www.labdoo.org/
  • The user does not know how Labdoo works and so he/she clicks on the "Learn how it works" orange button.
  • The user is taken to this page: https://www.labdoo.org/content/about-labdoo. The user then has three options: (1) either go ahead and click on one of the big buttons to make the contribution (for those who don't have time), or (2) watch a fun video explaining how Labdoo works, or (3) for those who like reading and understand things in more detail they can read the full explanation at the bottom of the page.

There is also a button for those who want to request laptops as well, to ensure we also accommodate for the school requests within this workflow.

I want to ask you guys for feedback. Does this workflow sound good to you based on your experience with Labdoo? any ideas on how to make it better?

Thanks.
Jordi

Since we use these new, simplified process we get 3-5 times as much contact mails from all over the nation. Beside the button and easier process we are using a new, simple landing page (thanks to Nina and Torsten for that), see www.Labdoo.de and our "Erklärvideo" (1 min. video for Newbies). Before that we got a lot of IT donations, but since the new approach it is even increasing (more donations, more helpers, more dootripper (Flugpaten), more projects). This is the experience from Germany, but Austria and Switzerland join the same features, so I guess it is also a positive development there. Next step will be to optimize our, free, sponsored Google Adwords campaigns. Then we hope to have reached a good level of awareness and contribution in the German speaking countries.

I tried to think I am a first time user (they call me Dori...so it's not difficoult for me) and... what if instead of naming the botton "learn how it works" you name it "donate a laptop / learn how it works". Why? for very lazy people who still want to DONATE... I'm not sure if there are many people like that, just an idea.
Still I tried it and I love the idea of not registring and the new page to start collaborating. Good job

I love it!!!!

I also agree with @eparpal, it will be even better if we can make it one step more convenient for the users =>maybe we can simply bring those buttons to the front page instead having users guess that they need to click on "learn how it works" to contact Labdoo for a laptop donation:)

Thanks so much for the new buttons! They surely help tremendously..

Thanks for all the great input. I agree with Elena's and Wendy's feedback. I will make a proposal about putting the buttons directly on the front page. The challenge is how to make that coexist with the nice pictures on the front page, but will try to think of a way and then you can provide more feedback. Thanks.

code for picture gallery?

Hi Jordi,

is it possible to give me the code for the picture gallery as a plug-in for our German landing page www.Labdoo.de to integrate it into our German landing page? Then we will have a similar page like Elena and Wendy suggested:

  • the 4 most common roles (donor, traveller, project request and contact) plus buttons
  • explain video
  • graphic to visualize the Labdoo process
  • picture gallery (if possible)
  • links to social networks
  • links to German super-hub pages

Thanks.

I have implemented Elena's and Wendy's idea: https://www.labdoo.org/

Right now this format is only available in English, but we can start translating it to other languages. If you want it in your language, please go to this document and create new translated buttons:

Let me know if you have any other great feedback or ideas!

Hi Jordi,

I rearranged the drawing in a table to see at a glance, which button might be missing etc. Drawings is not so good to handle. Maybe you know a way how to put a button into an array of the table? Hope I did not spoil your drawings, but I like a structured document :)

Thanks, Ralf
