Hello,

A school in Gambia needs laptops but has no electricity in the school. I asked about the distance to the nearest village with electricity
Does anybody know how could they have electricity?
Is photovoltaic roof pannels an option and how could we arrange for that?
Thanks a lot in advanced

There are many different ways to generate electricity. Finding a sustainable storage solution (battery) is the real challenge.
I am also interested to learn possible low cost methods to provide electricity to the area without grid in place:)

I can suggest you

- to contact the local section of the Engineers without borders (EWB, in German IoG Ingenieure ohne Grenzen); if they accept your solar project a professor and his students will take responsibility for the engineering part and 50% of the costs. You have to find a solution for 50% of the costs.

- take a look here http://solarcontainer.org/index.php/en/; it is a solar power plant "in a container", ready to use, and each container comes filled with Labdoo laptops. A village pays for the costs of using energy, for details you have to contact the company.

- some countries, government, manufacturers or associations offer help or funding, but this you have to find out in your country, special prizes, 50% covering of the transport costs etc.

Thanks so much. The people in charge of this project read your comments and will consider them. I amb not sure about the details of the project and do not know their needs and priorities. They will travel there in a few weeks and will get back to us. May be there are some crucial qüestions they shoud ask or check once they get there, any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
