Project description:

Be Drug Free Uganda: It’s a Campaign Project for students in and out of school. It raises awareness among students of the real risks of drug abuse, and the serious ramifications on a person’s physical health, mental health, and overall well-being. In addition, the campaign educates about the serious risks of drug use for transmitting HIV, and it encourages young people to share this information with their peers to prevent the spread of this disease.
The campaign centers on students, where they participate in sport, arts and technology to educate fellow students about the dangers of drug use and addiction.
Objectives of the Be Drug Free Clubs:
The general objective of the Be Drug Free Uganda Campaign is to promote a drug free young generation in Uganda. The specific objectives are:
i. To eliminate the use of drugs in schools and in the communities
ii. Help young people live a drug free proactive and productive life
iii. Create awareness about the real risks of drug use
iv. Create a Be Drug Free Computer Hub where young people can learn, and share knowledge/information about the serious risks of drug use in transmitting HIV.

YouthPost Uganda launched the campaign project “Be Drug Free Uganda” the first of its kind in Uganda which involve schools establishing BeDrugFree Clubs that enable students to interact, learn, share and create awareness with their peers. The campaign is used as an advocacy strategy to create awareness of the real risks of drug use and addiction. The campaign centers on students, where they participate in sport, arts and technology to educate fellow students about the dangers of drug use and addiction.
YPU staff and volunteers work collaboratively with school staff to coordinate and implement activities in the classrooms and outside the classrooms that support the Be Drug Free Uganda Campaign Project.
The project envisions to create/establish a Be Drug Free Computer Hub where young people can learn, and share knowledge/information about the serious risks of drug use in transmitting HIV. The Be Drug Free Computer Hub will help young people to create an online be drug free community and champions. Hence connecting their world together.
The Hub will also be used to coordinate the drug facts day online which is going to happen next year. The Hub will also act as a tool to foster students learning and skills in the information computer technology hence helping both the students and the youths out of school to gain access to educational content.
