Today at Remnant Educational Centre (Orphanage & School) within Ongata Rongai Village in the outskirts of Nairobi, we received a new year gift from Labdoo. We got laptop serial no. R9-KE2YB 11/12, TAG 11823 courtesy of Mr. Charles Cornu who visited our centre. On behalf on myself and children of Remnant we thank you so much for this gift which is the first of its kind. We are a little foundation which supports HIV-orphans in Siaya (Kenya). We enable 58 motivated students to pass the secondary school they would have to pay for - other than for the primary school. With this education they have the possibility to go to a university or to another institute. So they get good prospects to learn a profession that allows them to have an independent life and to support their families. Our aim and hope is, that the current students will support the future students one day.
The members of our foundation visit our beneficiaries and their schools regularly. Most of these schools are extremely poor, and there is a tremendous lack of learning aids. So, in addition of supporting the orphans, we also began supporting their schools.
We could also rent a room for a computer center - the only one in the whole area of 800 000 inhabitants. There the teachers can do some administrative work, and their students can work at some learning programmes. Unfortunately, many of the labtops there are quite old and are going rather badly.
