As requested by Jordi Ros:

Hello Labdoo team. I am a manager on one Edoovillage and participate(d) on two projects involving Labdoo sending computers to schools. As a nearly-first-time user of the Labdoo website and the Edoovillage managing interface, I have been asked by Elena Parpal from Barcelona hub to send by this form a brief summary of my experience with the website interface. Here it follows. All the best and big thanks to everybody in the Labdoo team for the great work being done. Dominik

I am not sure how much it is pertinent, but as a first-time user and an IT with some experience in designing user interfaces I would say that there might be a few areas in which the management UI could get more consistent and intuitive. Especially ... there should be a clear difference in the UI on what elements are "clickable" and represent an action and which are purely informational. For instance, there are two red texts: "Edit this Edoovillage" and "Data", both of them formatted the same, but one is a command and one is just a text. In the same way the graphics "Go to the photoalbum" is clickable, but the neighboring graphics ("Don't send objects, ..."), is only informational and has no action and there is no visual distinction between the two, unless one hovers his mouse over. Also command-representing buttons and links are sometimes scattered around the page which does not add to the consistency. the idea of the main navigation panel on the top is good ... I guess adding a second, page-dependent line below it with important commands would make the interface easier. I guess experienced users have no troubles with it, but it may give hard times to first-timers.

Thanks very much Dominik. Your input is very valuable. Some of your comments are in my mind and i agree that the UI in these areas needs to be improved. There is a plan to improve the UI of the edoovillages and hub pages that will create a list of actionable icons clearly differentiated on the right side column of these pages to ensure all "clickable" objects are gathered together instead of scattered. Most people know how it works because they are experienced, but for new users, like you say, it is difficult. So I will try to push up the priority of this work item based on your feedback. Thanks.

BTW, Dominik, please notice that my area is not web development. While my background is in computer science, I had never programmed any web platform before, so your feedback is most welcome.

Hello Jordi! I did not know you were the one behind the web UI. All thumbs up for the changes. It really is cleaner and more intuitive, at least to me. you did a great job. Just one very minor thing ... the buttons "Data", "Dootronics" beneath the graph in edoovillages ... when you mouse over them, the cursor remains arrow. It should become "hand" to indicate it is clickable (indeed there is the text "Select", but still). It is one line in CSS - cursor:pointer; Again, you have my admiration, if you did this thing without being actually a web developer.

I like the new changes. I adapted the help page with a new screenshot: https://www.labdoo.org/content/managing-your-edoovillage-semaphore

Additionally I believe it would be better to design the buttons "Data | Dootronics | Dootrips | Metrics | GICs" as tabs, like the tabs in the user profile. The tabs still could be colourful, but using two colours (for active and inactive tab) would be better and then we would not need the "select ->" infront of the buttons/tabs. But I could create a new ticket/task for that.

As being a web developer I have to say that I suck at design and I am not an user interface designers. Each web development project should also have a designer and a user interface designer to help building intuitive and attractive websites. But of course, we can only dream of that at Labdoo :), since we have just one (!) developer and that is Jordi and he is doing a great job! :)

Thanks Dominik for your feedback!

Cheers
Lisa

Thanks Dominik once more for the feedback, i added the 'cursor:pointer;' css code to the tabs.

Thanks Lisa as well for your thoughts. Yes could you please create a separate task? I can't promise i will get to it since there are many other tasks i am working on, but it's good feedback to have it in our ticket list. Much appreciated.
