Hello..:)
I am doing a library project under Wedu Rising Star Special Project in which there is a financial assistance for construction project back to my community at Sangau, Mizoram, India. Hailed in a border village in Myanmar and India, I was the very first female to study abroad from my community and the only person from my family to enter university. Growing up in this community of underprivileged and remote region, I remember how it was difficult to buy even exercise/note books and buying course books or novels were out of questions. Even now, many students in local medium often use old books pass down to them by their siblings or relatives. To stop and prevent future students struggling with access to basic education and being stuck in poverty, our project will introduce a library: a room to read with resources needed for these students to grow, learn and develop.

The project will also have a program called Critical Thinking class. We hope to enhance culture of reading by providing and training these students to explore readings beyond their current courses’ book and foster student’s love of reading and as a result boost their academic achievement overall. The class will also focus on fostering English communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving and strategies for life-long learning and leadership. Since the school is not in the position to run the library and have books on their own, just providing the library building will not help the school. Therefore, the project will include creating a functioning library by installing bookshelves, books, tables, chairs and one computer to maintain and record books. The funding is mainly for the construction of the library building, and collection of books and laptops would be entirely based on contribution from people's goodwill as well as organizations. Together with willing international volunteers I will be there in the side for two months doing the project. We would like to start with introducing laptop project to these students first and after spread it to many other schools that never had access to laptops in their community. We are working with LABDOO, a collaborative humanitarian social networks that provides and brings used laptops along with educational tools to the most needed schools and students with zero-funding involved in the process.

So we are kindly requesting your attention for two things:
Bookdonors:
If you have any kind of books (new/old) that you wanted to donate to this project kindly contact us below:
Alinery Lianhlawng, Aizawl, Mizoram, India: Ph: +91-9485113001,email: l.alinery@gmail.com
Klaudia Lewonczyk, Sejny, Poland, email: klaudia.lewonczyk@gmail.com

Traveler:
As mentioned, we collaborate with Labdoo, the NGO that brings clean unused computers and educational software to schools where they need them, using sustainable resources (and without the need for money) based on the work and collaboration of volunteers around the world. To solve the transportation problem, we repurpose the trips made by people like you, so we do not divert resources that should go to more important things and so that we can help to reduce CO2 emissions to the planet.
To bring computers to [Mizoram, India] we need a traveler that often goes from [United States or Europe, or any part of the world where there is Labdoo Hub: https://www.labdoo.org/hubs].
If you are planning a trip to these coming days or months, could you help us with one or two healthy laptops?
(Or if you know someone who is going to)
Here you will find information and pictures of the Blue Mountain Higher Secondary school, which do not have their own school and are sharing rooms with the high school with no library or laptop.
Note: The result of Special Rising Star is not announced yet; nevertheless, we are very determine that this project will be successful with the belief that ‘when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’-Paulo Coelho. Therefore, we started our campaign for books and laptops so that we can run the Library as soon as the construction is completed and that there is enough time to process for sending and receiving books from all parts of the world from someone like you.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Alinery Lianhlawng & Klaudia Lewonczyk

Thank you so much Alinery and Klaudia for your wonderful message, for explaining your amazing work and for sharing your pictures. We know thanks to Jampa what an amazing work you are doing to help bring better education opportunities to your village.

Regarding the need for books, the Labdoo laptops that you will soon receive from Klaudia include a lot of educational offline content. For instance, it includes the complete wikipedia offline, so hopefully that contributes to your project of bringing books to the school (in this case, virtual books).

Ralf prepared these laptops for you. Ralf could you briefly explain (or send a link) to Alinery and Klaudia about some of the eBooks, wikipedia, and offline content that the laptops come with?

FYI, this is Alinery and Klaudia's project in India: https://www.labdoo.org/edoovillage?e=39813

Hi,
depending on the the size of the disc-drive each laptop is coming with a lot of OER (open educational resources) and offline wikis, being explained here https://www.labdoo.org/content/offline-wikis-and-oer-open-educational-re.... And more than 300 educational programs, Office etc. are included https://www.labdoo.org/content/educational-software. Part of Labdoos work is to scan the web and collect license-free content for the project. Most of it can be downloaded from our FTP server (you don't need that is I pre-installed as much as possible) http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/wiki-archive/.
I can only speak about the laptops I sent to you. Those are filled with content, as much as possible. A huge library, about 20 - 60 GB of books, videos etc.
Some Labdoo helpers are following a different way of installing laptops ("simple installation"), missing a lot of this educational content. So it is not always guaranteed that you will receive laptops installed with a maximum of content.
If you are aware of upcoming laptops please ask the Labdooer to pre-install the maximum possible content to get the maximum possible result for the children.
In case of any question it will be a pleasure to help you.
Thanks,
Ralf

Dear Jordi and Ralf,

I wish there is something that explicitly express our sincere gratitude than a word "Thank you" I am extremely happy that the laptop does not only come as it is, but full of resources that I was wondering how to let them access. I check the offline wikis and OER manual that the wonderful Ralf installed. Indeed these virtual books equivalent to hundreds of book and seems like we can introduce these things before we can get internet connection. I will be going around to department in Mizoram to see if there is a chance of providing internet to the school as well.
Again, thank you so so much for your wonderful work!

Best Regards,
Alinery Lianhlawng
