Dear Labdoo community,
in a few weeks Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be released in the 2nd Quarter, 2020, which will cause additional workload for our team to check, prepare, optimize and upload 20.04 LTS based images to our FTP server. To reduce workload, data transfer and storage we will

  • stop maintenance of 32 Bit images (any language package). As you might know, about 14 years ago (2006/7/8) there was a switch from 32 Bit technology to 64 Bit CPUs. Many operating systems (Linux, Windows and others) and software (Skype etc.) stopped publishing 32 Bit versions. We are aware that we might not be able to sanitize and install a few 32 Bit laptops donated to Labdoo. But after so many years we should also bury 32 Bit technique and concentrate our limited resources on 64 Bit. For about 2 years from now, you will find the 32 bit image archives for 18.04 LTS here http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/archive/18_04_archive/
  • When 20.04 LTS will be officially launched in April, 2020 and when Labdoo will have new images ready to use on 20.04 LTS base, we will remove the 16.04 LTS image archive from our FTP server (about May/June, 2020) http://ftp.labdoo.org/download/archive/16_04_archive/. If you would keep a copy of 16.04 LTS images store them locally. But 16.04 LTS is or is getting out of support, so due to security risks you should not use them anymore.
  • To reduce number of images and download volume, we also skipped those French (FR) and Spanish (ES) images, which came with smaller, but older content in those languages. So only 2 images based on 64 Bit and will actual educational content will be maintained. The drawback - you will need at least a 100 GB disc-drive for French and 120 GB disc-drive for the Spanish image. If you have smaller harddiscs you either have to replace them by larger disks. Or you have to use the small basic image for cloning and at such content, you think best for the school and size of the disc-drive.

If you have any suggestions or wishes concerning Ubuntu 20.04 LTS let us know. Post it here or send a mail to Labdoo-D@Labdoo.org. Thank you.

Hallo Labdoo-Community,

Vielen Dank.
