Thanks to everyone for being at a meeting the day before Thanksgiving. The dedication and perseverance of our group is hard to match.
So here's to planning a fun event in San Diego. For the CGIU, I looked at the application and many of the questions they ask are directly out of the application we applied for earlier in the year. It is essentially complete, minus a couple questions about updates. Can everyone take a look at these and give back any needed feedback?
Also, the TGIF report I mentioned is here on google docs. I need one person to write the up the marketing/tagging portion and one person to write the QA portion. It'll only be a paragraph each. Can I get it by next Monday? I'll take care of the summary and future plans and give it to them by Monday night.
Please write a 2-3 sentence description (in the third person) which summarizes your group's CGI U Commitment to Action.
Labdoo aims to reduce the development and digital divide in communities abroad while also tackling electronic waste in our communities by connecting them using a grassroots volunteering network. There are only a few steps that it takes for an old unused laptop to go to a child in a community that needs it. Labdoo organizes and broadcasts these needed steps in order to most efficiently get a laptop to a child.
Labdoo has steadily made progress by enlisting and empowering new partners and made improvements towards the Labdoo process. We have joined a mutually beneficial partnership with a sustainability fund, TGIF, on the UCI campus. They fund material costs while Labdoo promotes TGIF while reaching out to students on campus. Other improvements to the Labdoo system like "Dootrip" have been made, which leverages volunteers who travel across the United States in order to reduce laptop shipping costs.
We won't be having a meeting next week, but we'll stay in contact through email about the our group's organization for next quarter and other tasks.
