Welcome to Labdoo at UCI!

We are a project that brings laptops to the children and schools of the developing world as efficiently as possible.

We look forward to seeing and meeting the new Anteaters at the UCI Involvement Fair and throughout the first couple weeks of school. Labdoo at UCI will be strolling around Alrich Park giving out balloons and free USB Drives to those who answer our questions correctly. Here's a quick study guide for those of you who like to be in the know ; D

- Labdoo stands for Laboratories for Edoocation.

- The first university based Labdoo hub is at UCI!

- There are currently seven Labdoo hubs around the world.

- Labdoo currently operates and has partners in 24 countries.

- The Digital Divide refers to the lack of access to information as well as technology in the developing countries, compared to developed countries like America and those in Europe.

- The US composes 5% of the world's population but uses as much as 30% of the world's resources.

- The world produces 25 million tons of electronic waste per year!

- Electronic waste needs to be properly recycled to handle and account for the dangerous toxins that make up electronic components. 

- In 2010, 170 million laptops were produced.

If you're interested in helping, here are some things that you can do:

-Collect or donate used laptops

-Rehabilitate Laptops for distribution to children in need

-Help plan advertising and outreach efforts on campus and with local communities.

-Get volunteer hours

-Go to Las Vegas!? We will be going to the CES Consumer Electronics Convention in January.

-Website Development

-Spread the word and how an old unused laptop could be used by a child!

Friends and Local Partners

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) at UCI has been a generous and resourceful partner with Labdoo UCI at the Anteater campus. They've funded a set of high endurance laptop stickers and also +200 USB drives as part of a Fall freshmen advertising campaign! But they have helped Labdoo at UCI much more than just by monetary funding. As a key component of the sustainability efforts on campus at UCI, they have provided guidance and awareness of other opportunities on campus as well.
