---------------------

Akata Dzokpé is a village in TOGO, around 30km north of Kpalimé, 200km north of Lome, close to Ghana Border. This village is a former leper hospital, but along with time, the illness has been disappearing and today only a few elder people are ill. During the years the families of the patients have settled around the dispensary to grow to 300 inhabitants. There is a primary school (école primaire), but for secondary school children have to go to the next village, around 6 km walking.

ASSF (Action Solidarité Sans Frontières, www.aassf.net ), a small french ONG based in Avignon, has started some actions in Akata : helping the leprous by improving or re-building their house with eco-technics, planting fruit trees, installing electricity etc… and working on education.

There is now a kindergarten that employs 3 local women, a library, school outings, and school support lessons. In this context, we have started to set-up a computer workshop and we have started to give lessons to introduce kids to computer, office programs, basic Internet usage (still 56KB access in rural TOGO) and education games. Initially foreseen for children, the classes have been extended to teenagers and young adults, as well to women students of a sewing shop.

Still a very craft activity that relies on the presence on site of ASSF people, we are trying now to move the project to a more permanent structure by building a house where children could learn as well as use the computers in free access all around the year. We are also financing the training of 2 students that we will hire at the end of their studies to manage the workshop.

You can help the Akata Computer Workshop project by donating an old laptop or by transporting one to the village of Akata (dootrip)! You will be very welcome by the village people and ASSF volunteers!

Global Inventory Checks (GICs)
GICs allow Edoovillage managers to track and update the status of laptops assigned to a specific edoovillage. Among other benefits, GICs provide a way to mark deployed laptops that no longer work. This is an important function as part of Labdoo's circle of life because once a laptop is marked as "broken", the Labdoo system can initiate the process of "rescuing" such laptop by activating a new dootrip, helping minimize electronic waste and the impact to the planet. This page is enabled to users who manage an edoovillage. Email Labdoo at contact@labdoo.org if you need to have your permissions upgraded.
